'The news was fabricated Says His Father'
=>The Anantnag-based family of Majid Khan, the football player who gave up militancy after an appeal from his parents, said that it is they who have sent their son outside the state for studies, not the army.
Several media reports on Saturday said that the army had facilitated the sending of Majid outside the state for studies, attributing the information toa ‘defence source’.
His father Irshad Khan, however, said that the news was fabricated.
“Yes, he has gone outside the state to study, but no one other than his familyhas done that,” Khan said.
He said that Majid was released some days ago from custody and soon after he decided that he will re-start his studies.
“Honouring his wish, we made the necessary arrangements and now he has left (the state) to join a college,” Khan said, without mentioning the course or place of study that Majid has chosen.
Majid was in second year of his bachelor’s degree when he recently dropped out of college.
Khan further added
that Majid has decided not to pursue football for now.
Former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia hadoffered to coach Majid after he gave up militancy.
“He was keen to study and we did not want to force him into anything else,” Khan said.
