A woman in Beed, Maharashtra gave birth to conjoined twins on Sunday and the twins have a single torso with a single set of arms and legs.

According to P.T.I, the twins were born at Swami Ramanand Teerth Government Hospital in Ambejogai tehsil and are put under ventilator as their condition is critical.

Such twins are called dicephalic parapagus and the birth surprised even the doctors as such cases are generally stillborn.

According to Times of India, the babies born through C-section weighed 3.7 kg and the mother completed her full gestation period.

‘Their health is gradually deteriorating and they have been put on life support system,’ Sanjay Bansode, head of obstetrics and gynaecology department at the hospital, told Times of India.

The parents already have three daughters and a son and due to poverty the family wasn’t able to provide antenatal care to the mother in a hospital and there were no regular checkups.

‘It is painful to see the babies in distress. It is cruelty on the part of destiny to throw our family into such difficult times,’ the grandfather of the babies told ToI, requesting anonymity for the family.
